I Want My Two Dollars

Tip Of The Day: When you get your $2, take them to Nu Look Consignment in Minneapolis – where a BIG SALE is afoot.

Tip For Tomorrow: It’s nice to know I’m not alone. Meet two other TC ladies kickin’ it cheap and fabulous. They (literally) wrote the book on being cheap, and it’s called (go figure) The Cheap Book.

Further Elucidation Of My Cheap Deal: I thought I was being all clever and cool with my $20 or less deal, but Nu Look Consignment has TOTALLY surpassed me with their sale this week.

From today (April 21st) to Sunday (April 27th – which is my Big Brother’s birthday, in case you were wondering), all items dated 11/1/07 or before are just $2 each.

No, that is NOT a typo. 2 DOLLARS PER ITEM. We’re talking jeans, pants, skirts, shirts, jackets, dresses, shoes, purses, shiny objects, kids stuff, you name it. As long as it is dated 11/1/07 or earlier, that item is only $2.

How do you find out the date? It will be clearly marked on the price tag, for your viewing and shopping pleasure.

Thank you to the lovely folks at Nu Look and Larue for alerting me to this amazing sale. Now, all of you, call in sick and head down to 50th and Penn - I'll meet you there. Just look out for crazy paperboys.

"She only speaks French, Roy. She doesn't speak imbecile."

I heart that movie. Glad I could be of help in the quest for cheap finds. Ooh! You could be like Alton Brown, except your show would be called "The Cheap Chick's Finds."

I smell Emmy. At least I think that is what that smell is...

Thanks for the tip on the big sale at Nu Look. I've always wanted to check them, too. Now, I have no excuse not to.

Oooh, I wish I lived in the Twin Cities so I could take advantage of the Nu Look sale! I am planning a job/location (and climate) change in the upcoming months so I actually need a few new pieces since it looks like my new job will require a different dress code.

The consignment stores where I live tend to be *quite* overpriced for what they offer! For example, last week I was in a consignment store where they wanted $18.50 for a plain long-sleeved J.Crew tshirt. I bought the same tshirt new for less than that! They also wanted 50 dollars for a BCBG cardigan that was selling for less at our local Filene's Basement (plus Filene's Basement has a much better return policy and gives away extra 15% off coupons by mail.)

Filene's! I heart Filene's. We don't have one here, so I am totally jealous, Mia.

Do you have Saver's?

I thought we had a Filene's Basement at MOA? Or did that go under?

I scored on the cutest Bandolino sandals this weekend at the GW in Eagan. $10 for a pair that had never been worn, plus blue tags were half off! I thought of you as I slipped them on, and how proud you would be.

I live in Washington, DC.

There are consignment shops here, but most of them are higher-priced (meaning they don't have much under 20 bucks, and the prices aren't really much less than retail on sale) and many of them seem to cater to an older, ladies-who-lunch type group. There's really only one consignment/resale place which has lots of stuff under $20--Mustard Seed, a resale shop in Bethesda which has some terrific deals and cheap funky jewelry.

No Saver's here, unfortunately.

What we do have is Loehmann's, Filene's Basement, and DSW Shoe Warehouse (which has a killer clearance section). Also, it seems like Target is really expanding here--a new Super Target just opened in the city! Walgreen's is also expanding here.

Yes larue, Filene's went under at MOA several years ago, sadly.

Oh, fyi, Sam's Club has clearanced out Nine West and Liz Claiborne shirts for $1.87-3.88 this week. I picked up about 6 of them yesterday. They are located on tables at the ends of food isles, strangely.

The best deals I get (as in free or super super cheap) here are always during moving sales. People are always moving out of town and sending out moving sale emails in DC.
