Cast Your Vote

My SIL asked me a very important question today:

"What is your theme song going to be?"

She was referring to the music that will play in the background during my segments on Fox 9 News. So far, I don't have one. However, the Powers That Be at Fox did mention I needed a song which represented all that is me, The Cheap Chick.

They seemed to like the “Money For Nothing, And Your Chicks For Free” song the best. Hmm.

Seeing as how we are a democratic society and all that, let's vote on it. What do you want my theme song to be? Ooooo, activity! And, group participation! Two of my favorite things.

SIL likes Duran Duran's “Girls On Film,” my Big Brother wants "Get A Job" by Offspring, and Ma likes "Money, Money, Money" by ABBA. Me? I'm partial to the "Mahna Mahna" song from The Muppet Show. It's got a good beat and you can dance to it.

Please post a comment about what you would like to hear. Anything goes - but ultimately the decision will be based on what song is actually in the public domain. We don't want to infringe on copyrights, you know. Lawsuits are not a frugal activity to engage in.

Isn't there a song out there about pie? And if not, shouldn't there be one?

Otherwise I cast my vote for "Money for Nothing," simply because it has Sting in it. It really has nothing to do with you.

Also - Pink Floyd has a song called, "Money." Velvet Revolver covered it, AND it has cash registers in the background. OOH! The Beatles song, "Money (Thats what I want)" too. And Schoolhouse Rock has an entire section devoted to Money songs. Three is a magic number, you know.

The options are all good. I like Dire Straits (and Sting is an added bonus). As much as I like Duran Duran, I'd vote against that one. My brain is non-functional right now, so I'll do a little research and get back to you on more ideas.

Some ideas,

Rush - "The Big Money"

Warren Zevon - "Lawyers, Guns and Money"

Steve Miller - "Take the Money and Run"

How about "Shakin" by Eddie Money?

I kind of like "Burning Ring of Fire" by Johnny Cash. (Get it - Cash?)

My real recommendation...

The Cult "She Sells Sanctuary" (the Cha-ching chorus...)

Of course, all this begs the question, if I had a theme song - what would it be. I think I'll go ponder that a while...

Good luck!

Doo Wah Diddy - by Manfred Man

"Here she comes just a walkin' down the street....
Preachin' her deals to every person that she meets...
Singin' do wah diddy, diddy dum diddy do."

Ok I'm no song writer but it has possibilities.

Pink Floyd. Money. With all that chachinging. But, then I'm a hippy and not a Cheap Chick.

Songs that are Public Domain are ones that came out before 1922. So, in that case, you have crusty songs to choose like "In the Light of the Silvery Moon" or "Go Down Moses" and the like. If you go down the crusty song route, be careful about when the recording was made. I have heard that you can still get in trouble using a (relatively) current artist's rendition of a public domain song since you would need their permission.

Do you know any local artists? I would suggest contacting them and have them strum a quick diddy (like an original or perhaps "Second Hand Rose" on a banjo?) and use that. And, it is free!

You should write your own song!!! How's that for "Cheap but not easy"!!
