Pretty In Pink

Fashion Tip Of The Day: According to my TV fashion guru, Robyne Robinson (do you like how I TOTALLY NAME-DROPPED there?), I need to wear more pastels on camera. They make me look softer and blonder, which apparently is what viewers want from their frugal living expert.

However, my closet is made up of three colors – black, white and brown. And variations thereof. Not a ton of pinks and baby blues to be found, making it difficult for me to look soft and blonde. That’s why I rely on the kindness of my friends and co-workers.

The fashion tip for Monday? Beg, borrow or steal (okay, not really steal) clothes from your pals to wear on special occasions. Like to weddings, or to film your Fox 9 segments.

So today I am wearing this lovely hot pink sweater, courtesy of Miss Ronda, my fabulous co-worker who just happens to be my size. And has awesome taste. And owns many pastel-colored clothes.

Just be sure to reciprocate when possible – to put good frugal clothing karma out there. As you borrow, so must ye loan to others. Sharing is caring, and all that Barney hoo-hah.

Its entirely possible I may be able to lend you my clothes in a couple of months, since, sheesh, 13 lbs. already. Thank you, gallbladder. Although, come to think of it, I don't have much other than white, black and navy. But wait! There is some olive/green there. Hmmm. Must work on this.

And wait - I thought the What Not to Wear girls were your fashion gurus? You just seem mighty fickel, that's all I'm sayin'.

That sweater is cute!

Robyne Robinson is AWESOME. I love her! She hasn't aged in forever. For all I know she's 100 years old. I saw her eating in the same restaurant once and she looked just as good in person.

That sweater is cute; however, it is NOT a pastel. According to Wikipedia, "... a tint is the mixture of a color with white (also called a pastel color) , and a shade is the mixture of a color with black. Mixing with white increases lightness, while mixing with black reduces it. Mixing with any neutral color, including black and white, reduces chroma or colorfulness, leaving hue unchanged." Therefore, your borrowed sweater is a hue of pink that is much more saturated than a pastel pink would be. Just in case you cared.

That sweater fits you nicely. Are you wearing spanx?! No unsightly bulging for you! Not that you asked, but since you posted a pic, you are free game for compliments from random internet people like myself.

That said, I agree that it is NOT pastel. So you might need to go back to Robyne for a refresher course. Or to Macy's - they have good sales, especially if you have one of their credit cards and get an additional 20% off during customer appreciation days. (Like how I worked that little money-saving tip in there?)

Sigh. People. It is pink. Pink is a pastel. That is all.

And thank you for the compliment.

And yes, Robyne looks younger than me - she will never age. And she's even more gorgeous in person.

I found your website from the dear Marketing Mama teasing you above. I love to borrow clothes, but also jewerly. Some of my 'arty' friends have jewerly to die for, okay at least cut off an arm for! Great post.

I am sorry, Cheap Chick, you are wrong. Pink is not always a pastel. According to Wikipedia, "Pink is a pale red color that was first recorded in the 17th century to describe the pale red flowers of pinks, flowering plants in the genus Dianthus. This color stands for beauty, grace and goodness. The color pink itself is a combination of red and white. Other tints of pink may be combinations of rose and white, magenta and white, or orange and white." So there.

Okay, let's all calm down. How about we encourage The Chick to wear COLOR? Can you say a POP of COLOR every now and then. BTW, Chick, you look FAB in colors. And, I don't think pastels on you. I think a great, hip, pop of color, a la Clinton and Stacy. Not too much, not too little.
